Hello again,
I wanted to devote an entire post to the sculptures at Buda Castle. There are some really amazing sculptures on top of that hill, full of movement and life, truly evoking the events they depict.
My absolute favorite, which I saw the first day I went there, is the Hunt. It is supposed to depict King Matyas on a hunt but the theme is universal. It's a gorgeous sculptural fountain depicting the Hunters, the Hounds, the Chase, Diana Protecting the Fawn.

Here is the Horn Blower calling them to the Hunt.

I love the stag. It's so realistic. The man looks so triumphant, and the stag looks so dead. Sculpture is only real if it's alive and moving and conveys a sense of realism, and this most certainly does.
Now check out these hounds.

The Hounds |
They could be any deer hounds in Cayton. I doubt there are any non-North Carolinians reading this post but if so, and even for you North Carolinians unfamiliar with the byways of Eastern North Carolina, Cayton is a community in Eastern, NC, East of New Bern. To call it a town would be a laugh. To call it a crossroads would be to err further still. To say it's a rural community of a few collected homes scattered a few miles apart might be more to the mark.
Cayton is a land of pine trees, sandy soil, and deer and bear for the taking. In the fall the countryside is full of roaming hounds, and these look as real as those, down to the lolling tongues and wrinkled brows.

They are panting and tired, ready for some water and some venison.
And here is Diana, protecting the little fawn. Doesn't the fawn looked scared? He looks as if he knows he had better stick by her side.
