Biserika Luterana

Salut!

I saved the Biserika Luterana in Sibiu for my last day just so I'd have something fun to do that day. Plus, it's not like I hadn't been taking picture of the tower all week, ha ha.

It's a really gorgeous church, and since Sibiu is a city and it was the European Capitol of Culture for 2008 it's very well preserved.

Here it is from the outside.

Here is a statue of Teutsch outside the church. He was a famous bishop who was affiliated with the church.

I took some pictures of the outside of the church before going in.

The inside of the church is very dark. Here is a painted stone carving right inside the doors.

The church is beautifully decorated. It has arched ceilings, stained glass windows, an organ, and some beautiful paintings.

There were also some interesting wooden carvings inside.

Here is the board depicting the verses of scripture for the service.

They were working on the interior so much of it was inaccessible. As a result I was unable to get any good pictures of the apse or the main altarpiece.

The crypt was really amazing however, and I took pictures of many of the memorial slabs. There were literally scores and scores of these.
